I have always wanted to work in the emergency department. I got the ‘bug’ for ED when I was a student nurse in Canberra after seeing a thoracotomy being performed and remember thinking “Yes… this is the job for me!”
I started working in ED as an RN in 1998 at Royal North Shore Hospital. I completed my Master’s Degree in Critical Care in 2002. I moved to the UK and worked as an NP in ED and Primary care until 2007. On returning home I completed my Masters-NP at UTS before becoming endorsed as a nurse practitioner in 2010. I was lured to St George Hospital when an opening came about in 2015. My main area of interest is in orthopaedic and sports medicine, but I love all aspects of ED!
I am a relatively new researcher with only 5 publications to date, but I l enjoy challenging commonly health beliefs about the way we practice. I love trail running, BBQ, beers and bourbon (my American mother has a lot to answer for!). However, my real passion is for my wife and 2 adorable kids who remind me what life is really all about – changing nappies and sleepless nights 🙂
